The reason behind Iker Casillas' sports technology startup accelerator.
Former Real Madrid C.F. goalkeeper Iker Casillas has launched SportBoost in 2021, an accelerator for sports-related startups partnering with La Liga and ESIC Business & Marketing School.
The goal is to create opportunities for athletes and retired athletes, as well as for technology startups dedicated to finding solutions to the challenges facing the sector. This partnership will unite and benefit both, providing employment opportunities beyond competitive sport for the athletes and generating greater visibility, exposure and funding for the technology companies.
Sportboost is able to provide athletes with the possibility of finding opportunities after retirement, a moment that can cause anxiety. In addition, startups can reach out to these athletes and benefit from everything they have to offer.
Sportboost’s initial startups include Fly-Fut, an AI-based drone camera system for soccer; Kognia Sports Intelligence, a Barcelona-based analytics firm; and Idoven, a wearable tech company focused on early at-home detection of cardiac problems - an issue important to Casillas following his heart attack in 2019.
