The Rise of Extreme E: How High-Profile Athletes are Racing to Protect the Planet.

Extreme E is the first sport built out of concern for the climate crisis. The series’ goal is to use electric racing to highlight remote environments under threat of climate change issues, and to encourage us all to take positive action to protect our planet’s future.

The competition features electric SUVs that compete in remote locations around the world.

There are several high-profile athletes owning teams that compete in Extreme E, including:

Lewis Hamilton: The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion formed TEAM X44 Vida Carbon Racing. Named with reference to Lewis’ own racing number 44.

Nico Rosberg: Formula 1 World Champion owns the Rosberg X Racing. This is one more step on Nico's path as an entrepreneur in the field of sustainable mobility.

Jenson Button: Formula 1 World Champion is both JBXE team owner and driver.

Carlos Sainz: The rally legend joined forces with the technical partner QEV Technologies to have on the track ACCIONA | SAINZ XE Team.

Michael Andretti: The auto racing pilot and chairman of Andretti Autosport team in the United States partnered with ALTAWKILAT, one of Saudi Arabia’s largest automotive companies, to form Andretti ALTAWKILAT Extreme E.

The series has attracted a lot of attention from high-profile figures in the racing world, as well as environmental advocates who are interested in promoting sustainability and clean energy.
